Aluminum MIG Welding Applications

Aluminum MIG welding is an excellent option when welds with high travel speeds need to be made on aluminum structures or components. Aluminum MIG welding is frequently used in the marine and construction industries. Since aluminum MIG wire is less strong and softer than steel MIG wire, special MIG torches are often used to ensure proper wire feeding. Spool guns can be used for applications that do not require high amounts aluminum weld deposition. Spool guns prevent feeding issues by shortening the distance the aluminum wire has to travel from the wire driving mechanism. For applications that require many pounds of aluminum wire to be deposited, a push-pull gun should be used. Push-pull guns reduce aluminum wire feedability issues by having a separate drive roll system in the torch itself.
